Why Trainers Belong at the Table When Choosing the Right Horse

At Prīmī, we believe that buying a horse is never just a transaction. It is a long-term partnership between rider, horse, and the people who support them every day. That is why we strongly encourage riders—especially amateurs importing a horse for the first (or multiple) time(s)—to involve their trainer from the very beginning of the selection process.

A Trainer Sees What Others Might Miss

A trainer understands far more than just talent. They know the rider’s strengths, learning style, ambitions, and limits. They understand daily management, long-term goals, and the type of horse that will not only perform—but remain confident, sound, and happy in the program.

When a trainer is part of the selection process:

  • The horse is chosen with a clear development plan
  • Expectations are realistic and aligned
  • Communication is stronger from day one
  • The risk of mismatch is significantly reduced

In short, a trainer helps protect the rider, the horse, and the investment.

Importing as an Amateur: You Shouldn’t Do It Alone

Importing a horse can feel overwhelming—different systems, distances, standards, and a great deal of emotion involved. For amateur riders, having a trusted professional involved brings clarity, confidence, and peace of mind.

At Prīmī, we actively welcome trainers into the conversation. We see them as partners. Their insight helps us refine the search, ask better questions, and ensure the horse we present truly fits the rider’s reality—not just their dream.

A Real Example: Sansa de Muze

A great example of this collaboration is Sansa de Muze, the tall chestnut mare now owned by Nora Zimmet.

From the very beginning, Nora worked hand in hand with her trainer, Amy Beal of Exactly Right, Georgia. Together, they engaged in multiple conversations with the Prīmī team—discussing Nora’s goals, experience, long-term ambitions, and the type of horse that would best support her development.

The decision to buy Sansa de Muze was not rushed. It was thoughtful, informed, and built on trust between rider, trainer, and Prīmī. The result speaks for itself: after their first show season together, Nora and Sansa de Muze were named Horse of the Year in their division.

This is exactly what happens when everyone is aligned—and when the right horse is chosen for the right rider, at the right moment.

Fixed Price Does Not Mean Fixed Relationships

We know that some trainers are cautious when they hear “fixed price.” It can raise questions or assumptions about how collaboration works.

What we want to be very clear about is this:
Prīmī’s fixed-price model exists to ensure transparency, fairness, and trust for all parties involved.

It means:

  • No hidden costs for the rider
  • No bidding wars or last-minute surprises
  • No conflicting interests influencing the match

At the same time, we deeply respect the professionals who guide riders every day. Trainers play a vital role in successful purchases, and we believe strong partnerships are built on clarity, communication, and mutual respect.

Working Together for the Right Outcome

Prīmī was created to improve how horses are bought—not to exclude professionals, but to build a healthier, more transparent ecosystem for riders, trainers, and sellers alike.

When trainers are involved:

  • Riders make better decisions
  • Horses end up in the right programs
  • Long-term success becomes far more likely

That is why we don’t just allow trainers in the process—we actively encourage it.
